THE SEA CAVES OF PULA
The wildest part of Pula’s coast is the Muzil peninsula, just a short ride from the city centre. Here the land ends in Pula’s highest cliffs, and the sea has carved out rocky passages, a hidden tidal cave and an underwater cave you can snorkel to. Most of it can only be reached from the sea, and the best way to get there is by kayak.
Here is what waits for you on the water.
THE CLIFFS OF MUZIL
From Valovine Beach in Stoja we paddle along the Muzil coast, right under Pula’s highest cliffs. Further on, the coastline opens into a canyon of narrow rocky passages that you can only reach by kayak. Your guide shares stories about Pula’s history and the life in the sea along the way.
THE HIDDEN TIDAL CAVE
Along the coast there is a hidden tidal cave that opens only at certain times. When the sea and tide allow, we paddle in and explore it. Because it depends on the tide, no two tours are exactly the same.
SNORKELING TO THE UNDERWATER CAVE
The stop is a secluded rocky cove reachable only by sea. Here you can swim, relax in the sun or put on a mask and snorkel. Together with your guide, we swim to the entrance of an underwater sea cave. The water is crystal clear, so look out for fish, sea urchins, starfish and sea cucumbers.
Feeling brave? Try cliff jumping – optional, and unforgettable.
WILDLIFE ON THE TOUR
The cliffs are full of life. Seagulls and wild pigeons nest in the cracks of the rocks, and cormorants often rest on the stones, drying their wings in the sun. Bottlenose dolphins live in these waters too, and with a little luck they come close to say hello.
Under the surface, the cove and the cave entrance are home to fish, sea urchins, starfish and sea cucumbers – bring a waterproof camera if you have one.
HOW TO SEE THE CAVES
Kayak Adventure is a three-hour tour along the Muzil coast with the cliffs, the canyon, the tidal cave when conditions allow, and a snorkeling stop at the underwater cave. It runs from April to the end of September.
Sunset Adventure follows the same wild coast in the evening and ends with the sunset over the sea. It runs from June to the end of August.
Private Groups can explore the caves on a tour just for their group.
GOOD TO KNOW
No experience is needed – our sit-on-top double kayaks are stable and easy for beginners, and every tour starts with a short safety briefing. The route stays close to the coast and depends on the sea conditions on the day. If the sea is too rough, the tour moves to another day. Anyone joining the swim or snorkeling must be able to swim.
